Chiropractic Care for Headaches

HEADACHES

Chiropractors can access, diagnose, and manage headaches. Evidence suggests that chiropractic care, including manual therapy, can be effective in treating cervicogenic and tension headaches. Studies have also shown that chiropractic care can help decrease the intensity and frequency of migraines. The treatment options may include manual therapy, soft tissue therapy, cupping and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization tools, rehabilitation, lifestyle changes, and education.

Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

NECK PAIN

The neck, also called the cervical spine, has susceptibility to injury due in part to biomechanics. Activities and events that affect cervical biomechanics include extended sitting, repetitive movement, accidents, falls and blows to the body or head, normal aging, and everyday wear and tear. A neck adjustment (also known as spinal manipulation) is a precise procedure applied to the joints of the neck, usually by hand. If not comfortable with manual manipulation, chiropractors have other ways of using light force adjustments that do not involve manipulating the neck. A neck adjustment works to improve the mobility of the spine and to restore range of motion; it can also increase movement of the adjoining muscles. Patients typically notice an improved ability to turn and tilt the head, and a reduction of pain, soreness and stiffness. In addition to manipulation, the treatment plan may include mobilization, massage or rehabilitative exercises.

Here are some neck conditions chiropractors can treat:

  • neck sprain

  • pinched nerve

  • spondylosis or arthritic changes

  • whiplash

  • muscle tightness

  • muscle spasms

  • decreased mobility

  • numbness / tingling

  • weakness, and

  • loss of sensation in your arms or hands.

Chiropractic Care for Shoulder Pain

SHOULDER PAIN

Pain in the shoulder region can manifest as a dull ache, sharp pain or tingling sensation that radiates down your arm. Your shoulder joint is one of the most complex joints in the body because it has such a wide range of motion and is used so frequently. While many people will visit a chiropractor for their back pain, these doctors don’t just treat the spine. They also treat extremities such as the shoulder.

Here are some shoulder conditions chiropractors can treat:

  • misalignment of the AC joint

  • frozen shoulder

  • arthritis

  • tendonitis

  • bursitis

  • tear in the rotator cuff, and

  • rotator cuff sprain

Chiropractic Care for Back Pain

BACK PAIN

Whether you’re a professional athlete or a busy working professional, it is common to see individuals struggling with low back pain. While this is common, it is not something anyone should have to live with. Back pain can often become a severe or chronic issue. If you are experiencing back pain, it’s best to receive help as soon as possible. There are many different ways that a chiropractor can help with back pain.

At your first appointment, they will ask you about your symptoms and medical history. They will then do a physical examination and may order tests, such as x-rays, if necessary. A few ways chiropractors can help with back pain are: spinal manipulation (adjustment), manual therapies, rehabilitative exercise, and lifestyle and nutritional counseling. Chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-invasive treatment option for back pain. Chiropractors can also help alleviate disc symptoms.

Here are some back conditions chiropractors can treat:

  • back sprain

  • pinched nerve

  • spondylosis or arthritic changes

  • whiplash

  • muscle tightness

  • muscle spasms,

  • decreased mobility

  • numbness / tingling

  • weakness, and

  • loss of sensation in your hands and feet

Chiropractic Care for Wrist Pain

WRIST PAIN

Wrist pain can manifest in different ways. If a joint is out of place in your wrist, inflammation can build up and create a lot of pressure that can quickly spread to your hands or arms. This swelling heavily restricts the movement of your upper body. The realigning of bones during chiropractic care acts as a catalyst in your healing—as your joints realign, inflammation in the soft tissue of your wrist is dramatically reduced. Chiropractors can also use stretching techniques to help release tension in your wrist in order to ease pain and reduce the tightness in inflamed ligaments.

Here are some wrist conditions chiropractors can treat:

  • muscle strains

  • carpal tunnel syndrome

  • numbness

  • tingling and weakness

  • tennis elbow

  • golfer’s elbow

  • dequervain’s tenosynovitis

  • trigger finger, and

  • decreased mobility

Chiropractic Care for Hip Pain

HIP PAIN

Chiropractors can help with osteoarthritis of the hips, hip dysplasia, hip injury or trauma, nerve impingement, repetitive stress injury, sciatica, and post-operative hip pain. Studies have shown that drop-table technique (which uses gravity to assist with adjustments) resulted in significant improvements for people with hip pain.

A research review of four studies determined that, in both the short and long term, chiropractic manual therapy was more effective for osteoarthritis of the hip than only exercise.

Other research examined the effects of chiropractic on sciatic pain. It concluded that 60% of sciatica patients who hadn’t experienced pain relief from other treatments benefitted at least as much from spinal manipulation as from surgery.

Here are some hip conditions chiropractors can treat:

  • sciatica

  • bursitis

  • tendonitis

  • arthritic changes

  • muscle spasms

  • muscle tightness

  • decreased mobility

  • hip dysplasia

  • repetitive stress injuries

  • nerve impingement, and

  • spondylitis

Chiropractic Care for Knee Pain

KNEE PAIN

There are a few common causes of knee pain. Some of the most common issues that people develop include:

Acute Injuries: some people acquire acute knee pain. This can take place in a car collision while playing sports, or while walking up and down the stairs. Some of the most common acute knee injuries include knee contusions, ligament sprain, muscle strains, and puncture injuries.

Chronic Injuries: some people could develop knee pain due to chronic conditions. There are chronic medical conditions that slowly degrade the cartilaginous cushion between the bones of the upper and lower leg. Some of the most common causes include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Other things that can cause pain are posture, lifestyle, and weakness. Chiropractors are able to treat knee pain by finding the root cause. How chiropractors can treat knee pain are knee manipulations, rehabilitation with strength conditioning, and soft tissue therapy.

Chiropractic Care for Ankle Pain

ANKLE PAIN

The ankle is a simple joint that takes a lot of abuse. It is not uncommon to suffer many painful sprained ankles during your lifetime. Overtime your ankle could become misaligned and lead to chronic bouts of pain even if it has not sustained a sprain. Because the ankle and foot are our foundation, it is important to ensure they are functioning properly.

If they are not functioning properly, we continue to facilitate dysfunction in our walking, running, biking, hiking, and all activities. This dysfunction in turn causes a cascading affect in the rest of our joints and muscles as they compensate for the dysfunction of the ankle. A chiropractor can do an ankle manipulation (adjustment) that takes less than a minute.

Here are some ankle conditions chiropractors can treat:

  • arthritic changes

  • muscle strain

  • Achilles tendonitis

  • ankle sprains

  • decreased mobility

  • numbness

  • tingling

  • weakness, and

  • plantar fasciitis
